Love this hole in the wall restaurant! I typically order take out and I am always blown alway with how quickly my food is ready for pick up.

The staff is always welcoming and friendly.

I'd highly recommend the yellow curry with shrimp and pad Thai.

First time getting food at this restaurant and it wasn't a pleasant experience. Here are a few things that could be improved.

    1. Another customer walked in right before me, but the server greeted him right at the door. In the meantime I was stucked at the door waiting until they finished their conversation.

    2. The whole restaurant was as hot as an oven, so I decided to get my meal to go. Helped myself to a menu, since the server didn't offered me one.

    3. I asked the server about the dish that I wanted to order and in the middle of the conversation the other customer that had walked in before me interrupted us to order, the server happily dropped our conversation to help the other fella, and so I waited yet again.

    4. Finally put in my order but, the server instead of going directly for the POS first wrote it down in the back of a receipt. I don't understand why.

    5. Waited outside for my order to be ready because again, the restaurant was unbearably hot.

    6. Got my order, drove home just to find out the spring rolls where mushy (which means they were frozen and not correctly defrosted) and the Pad Tahi was bland at best with the beef as chewy as it can get.

Won't be buying food at this place again.

While I was in The Pearl District browsing and shopping I spotted Khao Soy Thai Restaurant.... I was early for Dinner. I placed a To Go order for Lad Nah for my Darling Husband, and I forgot what I ordered ... although it was Probably Tom Kha .... for my own Dinner. I usually carry Two Folded Up Empty Recyclable Plastic Bags with me.... to Help me Carry items Home in Case there are No Handles on the Shopping Bags, and also in case it starts to Rain.... this IS Oregon, you know. Plus, I ride Public Transportation daily. I tasted some of my Husband's Lad Nah, and I like it. Although, I do NOT get to The Pearl District much these days. I will be back and Soon. Remember to Tip your Server.

With the plethora of places to eat in the NW 23rd neighborhood, this low-key, unassuming Thai restaurant can easily be missed. But i don't recommend overlooking it. Named after a popular dish commonly found in Northern Thailand, Khao Soy Thai serves an authentic slice of Thailand.

At first glance, the menu can be overwhelming. Ranging from staples such as Pad Thai, Green Curry, and Pineapple Fried Rice, there are also less American known Thai dishes like Thai Frog Legs and Khao Soy. And these unique Eastern Asian flavors are what make this spot legit.

Having fallen in foodie-love with Khao Soy during a trip to Chiang Mai, Thailand I reflexively ordered the Khao Soy. This classic Northern Thai dish is not your typical noodle soup dish. It is expertly assembled with soft egg noodles, pickled mustard greens, shallots, lime, cilantro, and meat (chicken for us). The outstanding character of the thick yellow broth gives savory, rich curry coconut creaminess that coats the tongue. It's difficult to not lick every last drop of this soup.

In direct contrast to the liquid gold, the noodles provide the perfect vehicle to maximize flavor and put more substance into our mouths. Fresh shallots, greens, and cilantro provide a relieving crunch and freshness.

Another perennial favorite is pad-see-ew. Although more familiar to the American palate, Khao Soy Thai's version is infused with what the Chinese call "wok hay." This indescribable flavor, imparted by the the breath of the wok, only supplements the sweet and salty soy sauce used to marinate the flat, chewy noodles. The crunch of the chinese broccoli and american broccoli give a sour note as a counterbalance to this enticing dish.

As a treat, there is a remarkable "happy hour" all-day menu to whet your palate. The garlic fried rice is a star. Many times, fried rice is lackluster, but this one is infused with garlic throughout and provides the appropriate level of saltiness.

Most importantly, get the Thai iced tea. It's perfection.

Thai restaurants permeate throughout Portland. It's always difficult to find one that is consistent, delicious, and genuinely from the soul of Thailand. With the owner and cooks originating from Thailand, this foodie gem is down-to-earth, real, and not the least bit pretentious - just the way I like it

Great prices and quick service. Their laminated "always happy hour" kind of tapas menu is a great way to try a variety of dishes without gorging your pockets or stomach. Unfortunately, the food is just okay. See breakdown:

    1. Spring rolls 1/5 - Mushy insides, no flavor. Wouldn't get this again.

    2. Bacon fried rice 4/5 - crispy bacon stir fried with rice lightly seasoned with soy sauce. The only downside is I usually make mine with egg, so I felt it was missing that.

    3. Massaman curry with pork 2/5 - the pork was clustered oddly. Thin strips of pork were tied together like a loofah around a nucleus of inedible fat. The broth itself was fine, but picking through the meat to eat was not enjoyable.

4 khao soy (soi) with beer 4/5 - the namesake dish was rich and bountiful. My wife ordered it medium, but said the broth was a bit too spicy for her. This was the only worthwhile dish to come back for, as this isn't a staple dish at all Thai restaurants. We much prefer Thai Noodles Etc. in Beaverton to this, but if you're in the downtown area, and don't want to trek to the west side, this will do.
